Recession hitting San Antonio

Even though Texas has been spared the ravages of this recession (depression?) and San Antonio in particular has done well, the signs are ominious here. Drive along S.W. Military and notice all of the empty storefronts. Then drive along 281 North going to the North Central area and you'll see the same thing. It's a scary time. I'm hoarding cash because I'm not sure what's ahead. I'm also deleveraging (paying down debt) as quickly as possible.
I'm thankful for the health of my family and the fact that we have jobs. But it's not looking good out there. God help us, especially with the chump we have in the White House.

Independence Day

May God continue to shine his countenance upon us. Through His grace, the United States of America is the greatest nation on earth. Let us humble ourselves before Him so that we can remain in His favor.

Dark Economic Days Ahead

I'm not an economist, but I play one on the blogosphere. Ever since the great financial market meltdown began, I've been voraciously reading anything and everything about the economy. I have to admit--it looks quite bleak. And the idiot we have in the White House is making it worse with deficit spending. These green shoots this moron and his minions keep telling you about are weeds.
I'll admit that the $787 billion dollar stimulus will help--a little. It'll be a heroin fix for the junkie economy, but once the smack wears off, then it's withdrawal symptoms all over again. And what's worse, the debt Obama is saddling us with is going to bury the economy.
This is one of the most insightful looks into the economic crystal ball. It looks like our future is cracked and we had better be thinking of getting something new. A new approach, a new frugality, and a new leader.

New Mayor

Well, San Antonio moves one step closer to a banana republic. Or tortilla republic. Julian Castro received more than 50-percent of the vote, avoiding a runoff. Don't kid yourself. The dude only is using the position as a stepping stone. In the meantime, expect him to suck up to the public unions. You think city service is bad now? Just wait.
But you know how la raza is. Vote for one of your own, even though they don't do jack shit for the community. How many times do South Side or West Side residents keep voting for the same tired faces and how crappy are some of these neighborhoods.

Mayoral Race

I can't for the life of me figure out why everyone thinks Phil Hardberger did such a wonderful job as mayor the past four years. He mostly stayed out of the way, which is good since the Texas and San Antonio economies are substantially better than the rest of the nation's. He rode the wave and he gets all the credit. Truth be told, Hardberger is an elitist prick who won the race four years ago because his opponent, Julian Castro, was a weak candidate.
Now Castro appears to be the front-runner for the job when the city holds its mayoral election on Saturday. Castro is what you come to expect from a local politician. He's an effete, smarmy prick too. His main opponents are Trish Deberry-Mejia, Diane Cibrian and Sheila McNeil. Can one of these ladies force a runoff? I think so. Can they beat him head-to-head? Possible, but not likely.
What will a Castro administration hold? Allegiance to the public sector unions, which means our city services will suck. Devotion to open borders will be another facet of the Castro tenure. What will that mean? More white flight, which means more flight of the capital that makes this city run. God help us.

Cosmic Wonders

We pause from the usual depressing talk of Obama, illegal aliens and the economy to talk about the wonders of the planet Saturn. Very cool. There is a God.

Here Come the Liberal Brownshirts

I don't ordinarily watch beauty pageants. Okay, perhaps I do. Now the Miss USA pageant is in the news because of the principled stand by Miss California, Carrie Prejean. She was asked about her thoughts on gay marriage. By speaking the truth, she lost the pageant.
I don't know Perez Hilton; I don't know what he does. I just know he's famous because he's a queer. But this is what political correctness breeds--fascism. How many people keep their mouths shut on such matters because they are afraid of losing their jobs? More money? Endorsements? He's lucky that Prejean is not my sister or daughter, because he would need a pound of steak to cover the shiner he would have on his eye.
It is my sincere hope that Carrie Prejean prospers because of her courage and integrity. Because if she doesn't, we'll see more and more of this type of behavior. Especially with the Nazi we have in the White House.
